Rogue - Pumpkin Patch Ale. I’m a bit late to the show (see Beer of Tomorrow Pumpkin Beer Showdown), but I do have a great seasonal treat from Rogue in the form of Pumpkin Patch Ale. This brew is part of their Chatoe Rogue series and has been available in the Fall for the last couple of years. For those not familiar, Chatoe Rogue beers use ingredients grown by Rogue on their own farm. The newest addition to the Chatoe Rogue series is Pumpkin Patch Ale, a beer made using fresh pumpkins grown in a patch that borders Rogue s 42 acre hop yard. The pour is a cloudy dark amber with a good amount of bubbly head. This beer smells like a spicy pumpkin bread with just a hint of hops in the background. Medium bodied with a lively amount of carbonation. The flavor starts with a subtle pumpkin note with hints of vanilla that jumps to a strong grassy hop and finishes with a spicy clove note. The aftertaste is very reminiscent of pumpkin pie, with a sweet pumpkin and subtle spiciness, but not in an overpowering way. This beer was very enjoyable to drink and would be perfect to bring to a family gathering or party as it has some great flavors but not so much as to be a turn off to those less experienced in the realm of craft beer. It plays the middle of the road compared to some of the other seasonal pumpkin brews, but I still very much enjoyed it. You can find this beer at pretty much any retailer that sells Rogue bombers, but expect it to disappear when we get closer to winter (or whatever you call December and January in California). Name.
